Wine Tasting October 1st at Jimmy the Greeks to benefit local high school seniors!

Join Madden Beverage,the Saco-Biddeford Rotary and Central Distributors for an evening of fine wine, food, and entertainment!

When:  Saturday, October 1st, 6–9pm

Where:  Jimmy the Greeks, 215 Saco Avenue, Old Orchard Beach.

While the band is playing, sample over 40 different wines – all available at Madden Beverage.

This is an annual event that raises money for Saco-Biddeford Rotary’s Scholarship Program for local high school seniors.

Tickets are $25 and includes your own personal wine glass to take home as a  souvenir!

Start Memorial Day Weekend off at a Beer Tasting at Madden Beverage!Stacy, our representative from Wicked Wines, will be on site to take us on a “tour” of the “Historical Beers of Scotland“, many of which, besides tasting great, have some very unique Scottish tales attached to their origins.Historic Ales of Scotland

Come in and try”Fraoch Heather”, “Ebulum Elderberry” and “Kelpie”, which is made from seaweed!   We will be trying several other special micobrews:
Tilburg’s Dutch, Double Simcoe IPA, Pauwel Kwak and Val-Dieu Grand Cru.

A representative from Maine’s Wicked Wines will be on site to answer any questions about the wines that will be featured at the wine tasting. Stop by and try Wicked Wine’s lastest offering “Zazo” a light, easy drinking Moscato (we tried it and loved it!), Fat Monk (both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) and Villa San-Juliette – just a few of the wines we will sample.

Beer Tasting Recipes

Recipes served at our March 13, 2011 Beer-tasting:

Many of you have asked us for the recipes used to make the appetizers for our March 13th Blarney and Beer tasting. For any of you looking to make a delicious dish with Unibroue products, we have provided the recipes below:

 

- Maudite Beef Casserole

Beer Used : Maudite

Serves 4
Prep time: 25 minutes
Cook time: 1 hour 45 minutes

Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. paprika
- Pepper to taste
- 1 lb. beef, cubed and trimmed of fat
- 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
- 3 tbsp. butter
- 1 celery stalk, cut in pieces
- 2 cups carrot, cut in pieces
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 12 oz. Maudite beer
- 1 cup beef or chicken broth

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix flour, paprika, and pepper in a bowl. Lightly flour beef cubes and set aside. Heat oil and 2 tbsp. butter in a nonstick pan and brown the meat. Put meat in a baking dish and set aside. Heat the rest of the butter in the nonstick pan and sauté celery, carrots, and onion over low heat for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon. Deglaze with beer and beef broth and bring to a boil. Pour broth mixture onto the beef cubes. Cover and bake for 1 hour 30 minutes or until beef and vegetables are tender.

- Trois Pistoles Brown Sugar Cookies

Beer Used : Trois Pistoles

Makes 24 cookies
Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 12 to 15 minutes

Ingredients:
- 1 cup Trois-Pistoles beer
- ¼ cup corn syrup
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- ½ cup butter
- ½ tsp. vanilla extract
- 1½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda

Directions:
Combine beer and syrup in a pot, bring to a boil, and simmer until reduced to ¼ cup. In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, egg, and reduced beer mixture. Beat until foamy. Stir in butter and vanilla extract. Sift together flour and baking soda and combine with wet ingredients. Drop onto a greased and floured baking sheet in 1 tbsp. balls. Bake 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes.

Blarney and Beer Tasting – March 13th

Join us for our warm up to St. Patty’s day party at Madden Beverage! We are having a great spring beer tasting featuring seven different high end microbrews that are free to try. The current line up will be Clown Shoes Clementine, Unibroue Maudite, Dogfishhead Squall IPA, Southern Tier Unearthly IPA, Trois Pistoles, Blanche DeNamur, and Stone Arrogant.
